How to Survive the Jump from a Highly Disciplined PMO Environment to a Start-up

Picture of Jeff Harmon holding PMIW Certificate of AppreciationJoel’s presentation will appeal to every project manager confronted with the need to apply a mixture of agile and predictive project management practices. In this presentation, Joel will share the lessons and experience she gained from working in both the wild west of technology start-ups and in a very structured company with an established PMO that required a deep understanding of traditional PMBOK knowledge areas and processes. Now back in the world of marketing technology in a youthful start-up, moving at breakneck speed, she will discuss the insights she has gained working in both types of environments and the tools and processes she has implemented to drive project management value throughout the new start-up company, Iterable.

Speaker:
Joel Sullivan

Joel was an English Literature major with a concentration in technical writing. Initially contracted to write marketing collateral for tech startups, she migrated to writing software documentation & training customers, and then managing software implementations. After working in the SaaS realm for over 11 years managing software implementation projects, she stepped into a highly disciplined and prescriptive PMO for the State of California, University of California, with critical milestones and deliverables. She was pulled away from that experience by Iterable, a San Francisco start-up, to be their very first project manager.
