Message from the President - November 2018

Taking Another Look

Last month I mentioned how your Board of Directors continuously looks at all our programs and events across the Chapter to make sure we are doing the right thing for our members. So, by now you should have received an e-mail for the first of our upcoming social networking events at Bowlmor in White Plains on November 19th. This event is open to everyone, including your family and friends. For only $25 per person, join us for a night of bowling, pizza, and fun! The event includes 1.5 hours of bowling, shoe rentals, as well as pizza and soda. You MUST pre-register for this event by November 15th. Check the event page for all the details!

Another change coming is to Chapter PDU reporting. After discussing our process with PMI’s Global Operations Center (GOC), we will not be submitting PDU's for those members attending our Breakfast Roundtable or Lunch & Learn events. Members who attend these events will have to self-report those hours attended. If you have questions on this new process, please contact me at President@pmiwestchester.org or Adella Rosenthal, VP Membership, at VP.Membership@pmiwestchester.org. We also are making these events open to only PMI Westchester Chapter members. The board felt Chapter membership should come with certain privileges.

This month’s Chapter speaker is Heath Suddleson who is coming to talk to us about Communication for Project Leaders. We manage tasks and activities and those activities must be performed by people, who must be led. It is not enough to simply be a Project Manager. We must become Project Leaders. Project Managers communicate with project teams each and every day, yet much of that communications is ineffective. Instructions and action items are often unclear or simply not transmitted in a way that promotes transfer of critical information. If any of this happens on your projects, then this session will provide relief. Please visit our website before our cut-off for pre-registration on Sunday, November 11th at 11:59pm.
After the Chapter meeting our Communities of Practice will meet for you earn an extra PDU. We now have three CoP's for you to choose from: Career & Personal Development, Quality, and PMO. Be sure to stick around for one of them to share your expertise with fellow members.

Our own Rob Candee, VP of Communications and Surekha Gooljar will be facilitating our Lunch and Learn Session this month on November 21st. This session will be a continuation from last month where Rob will be giving us more Spreadsheet Tips for Project Managers. You need to pre-register for this virtual event before November 20th. See the event page for more details.

Final thought… I want to again encourage all of you to get involved. We need a number of volunteers to help your Chapter be even more successful. We are working on implementing PMI’s Volunteer Resource Management System (VRMS) to help us identify our members interested in volunteering, but aren’t sure how to get involved. In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact me if you are thinking about getting involved now. Are you good at PowerPoint? Are you great at surfing the web and cold calling? Are you awesome at planning networking events? Do you want to run a lunch and learn? Do you have amazing organization skills? Something else? Think about it… and let’s talk soon.

I hope you will join me on Tuesday, November 13th…

See you at the Chapter meeting…
Brenda Horton, PMP
President
