My, How Time Flies!
I’ve been doing some reflecting on our Chapter lately and realized it’s been two years since I took office to serve as your Chapter President. My passion for both the project management industry and this Chapter has never wavered. As a project management professional myself, I face the same challenges as you on a daily basis. My goal for this Chapter was to ensure members received a value they could bring to the table the next day, hopefully making their lives a little bit easier. I’ve been proud and honored to serve you, our members, during this term. Thank you for putting your trust in me as your leader.
We have a busy line-up for you this month. Our Annual Business & Chapter meeting is being held on June 12th at the Royal Palace starting at 5:30 p.m.!!! This is a free meeting to all of our Westchester Chapter members. We will review our accomplishments, financials, and other key Chapter information to those attending. Everyone is encouraged to ask questions or bring ideas to the board for consideration. I want to hear from you on how you think we are doing in serving you and our community. As part of this meeting, election results for our new upcoming Board of Directors will be announced and finally, I have an exciting announcement for those in attendance. Do not miss this meeting!
After Chapter business is done, we have a FABULOUS speaker lined up for you. Michael DeKort, while working at Lockheed Martin, raised safety and national security issues to his superiors while working the Coast Guard's Deepwater program after 9/11. Unfortunately, both his superiors and lead counsel, James Comey, did not agree and subsequently terminated him. Michael became the first person to use YouTube as a whistleblower and was called to be the lead witness at a congressional hearing, interviewed on “60 Minutes”, featured in a documentary movie called, “War on Whistleblowers”, and received the IEEE Barus Ethics Award. Michael will be sharing and discussing with us the core PM and engineering best practices aerospace and DoD organizations utilize at a CMMI level 5. He will elaborate on the purpose of each practice, how they are utilized and how the implementation and use of a core set of practices is the key to their success.
Secondly, Dan Johnson will be facilitating our June Lunch & Learn Session on Wednesday, June 20th. Dan’s last event was so successful, we invited him back to help keep the conversation going. This month he will talk about how someone can “Bounce back from a layoff.” Don’t miss this sure to be information packed hour. This is a free virtual meeting, but you will need to pre-register on-line. Details are on our website.
Thirdly, our talented Breakfast Roundtable team will be meeting on June 26th. Mohammad Imran Shaikh will lead a discussion on DevOps - A Collaborative Approach to Delivering Software. If you aren’t familiar, DevOps is an approach to delivering software that brings Developers, IT operations, Quality Assurance and others together into a highly collaborative group. Again, this is a virtual meeting so you will need to pre-register on-line.
And finally, I wish you all a very safe and happy summer. May it be filled with friends, family, barbeques, laughter, and lots of memories. We will see you again in September!
I hope to see you at the June Chapter meeting starting at 5:30 p.m.!!!
